Transportation Management & Design, Inc. (TMD) partnered with the City of Davis to develop a comprehensive Short Range Transit Plan for Unitrans and Davis Community Transit. The plan aims to build on Unitrans’ successful ridership growth while ensuring Davis transit systems effectively serve changing post-pandemic travel patterns, particularly the evolving dynamics to and from UC Davis Campus.
Our work began with a thorough analysis of bus and paratransit performance to understand travel patterns of both riders and non-riders. We conducted a market assessment to map current and projected travel demand alongside development trends throughout Davis. Community input, from diverse stakeholders including students, was central to our process. We created customized passenger surveys and targeted outreach events to capture feedback.
TMD coordinated with ongoing regional transit planning efforts to ensure our recommendations aligned with broader transportation initiatives. This approach helped create connections between local and regional transit systems while maximizing resource efficiency.
The final plan will deliver practical route modifications and service-hour adjustments that balance operational efficiency with community needs, resulting in a more responsive and sustainable transit system for Davis residents, students, workers, and visitors.
