TMD conducted a Bus Facility Location Analysis to identify optimal locations for replacement facility locations for the current Imperial Avenue Division, as well as additional operating divisions for contracted service while also considering the requirements of Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) operations and maintenance. The study reviewed existing facility capacity to determine whether they could accommodate the new vehicles associated with service growth projected in SANDAG’s San Diego Forward and MTS service plans. TMD created heat maps of locations of current and future trip ends relative to facility sites in order to identify potential site locations. For potential sites, TMD tested multiple scenarios of bus pull-ins and pull-outs based on proposed service frequencies to identify the optimal mix of facilities that would minimize non-revenue travel time. MTS is currently building its new Clean Transit Advancement Campus (CTAC) at a site that TMD identified as having maximum effiiency and effectiveness for ZEB operations and maintenance.
