The rise of Transportation Network Companies (TNCs, e.g. Uber, Lyft) over the last decade has led to pilot projects around the country that have explored ways transit agencies can partner with TNCs to provide public mobility. As part of her research at UCLA, TMD Project Manager Melissa Sather studied the benefits and challenges of such partnerships and guidelines for their application. The lessons learned from this research are being used in TMD’s work across the country as agencies look to address changing travel behavior and emerging alternatives to traditional fixed-route transit. This policy brief summarizes some of the key findings from this research.
