OCTA Transit Optimization Study

With its expertise in transit data analytics and performance evaluation, TMD supported the Transit Optimization Study for the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to systematically identify and address key chokepoints in the OC Bus network. Using Swiftly data, TMD screened the entire network for areas of the highest vehicle and passenger delay. The chokepoints were consolidated into 10 key corridor segments that contributed nearly 50% of systemwide delay. TMD is currently working with OCTA to identify transit priority and stop improvement strategies such as queue jumps, bus bulbs, stop relocation, and transit signal priority, to reduce delay on these corridors. The final plan will recommend a series of on-street improvements that will target delay reduction, improve operating speeds, and enhance the customer experience, while setting a replicable model for future transit optimization efforts.
