The Better Market Street Project is a landmark project for the City of San Francisco, with the opportunity to dramatically reshape the pedestrian, bicyclist, and transit experience on the city’s most important thoroughfare. With this opportunity comes the responsibility of ensuring the continuity and quality of transit operations during project construction. TMD led the transit elements of the Better Market Street project, which included developing the transit service and operations plan for Better Market Street.
TMD also worked with the City and SFMTA to develop the adjustments necessary to maintain service during the long-term phased construction. In developing the operating plan, TMD evaluated several factors, including impacts on transit travel speed and reliability, total vehicle/passenger throughput, transit network connectivity and legibility, ease of implementation, transit operating cost and other operating impacts, and potential ridership gain/loss. The draft operating plan for the long-term phased construction was completed in Spring 2020.
