Overview

Charles Ye joined TMD’s planning team in 2017, pursuing his strong personal and professional interest in enhancing the role of public transit in people’s daily lives. Through his formal education in transportation planning, and work experiences in transportation consulting and transit service, he has gained a broad understanding of local and regional transportation policy, planning, and operations. Most recently, Charles performed research and analysis for the UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies, contributing to Caltrans’ 2017 update to California’s Statewide Transit Strategic Plan. He honed his strong technical skills through internships with both Fehr & Peers and the City of Pasadena’s Department of Transportation, developing network models, conducting trip generation and mode share analyses, evaluating ridership performance, and contributing to various traffic engineering and multimodal development projects using ArcGIS and other data analysis software. His commitment to supporting social equity and mobility through reliable public transit also inspired him to gain direct experience as a bus operator for UC Irvine’s Anteater Express during his undergraduate years (weekly ridership of almost 60,000 people).
